Finding a date can be as easy as wandering along the street. You don’t even need to be outgoing or over confident, or one of those creepy people who hits on everyone who passes them (please don’t be one of those people!). With the Singles Around Me Kenya app, you can make connections with people near you, and then meet up when you’re close by. The app works on a range of mobile devices, letting you know when anyone in your network of potential dates is around, so you can quickly ask them to join you for a coffee or a game of cricket.

SinglesAroundMe (or SAM as it is also known) has its fingers in many pies. You can use the app in many countries around the world, meaning you can find people to date wherever you happen to be. The Kenyan version functions the same as it would in any other country, but – you guessed it – is restricted to finding you dates in and around Kenya.

Membership numbers aren’t amazing, neither are they terrible so, with a bit of effort, you ought to be able to locate people near you. Once you’ve found a profile you like the look of, you can take a more in depth look at what the person has to say about themselves. When building a profile, members include lots of simple information about themselves such as: the relationship they’re interested in, their hobbies and their habits, amongst other things. This should give you a good idea of whether or not you’ll hit it off in person.

Once you’ve downloaded the app and made friends, you’ll see when they’re near by. This allows you to make spontaneous dates whilst you’re going about your daily routine. You can check photos and make notes on members to keep a track of who is who, and remind yourself of any thoughts you’ve had about them. The app is pretty simple to use and it’s free to download, which is very handy indeed.

Sadly the website is designed a bit less elegantly. Pages can load slowly or not at all, and we had error messages when trying to register. Still, we did manage to register and browse profiles without too much difficulty. There are videos to watch (although we could only find a couple for some reason) which have been uploaded by members, and you can check out the latest news on the site.

The user dashboard provides information such as how many times your profile has been viewed, your ratings, new users, who is online and how many messages you have. You can send private messages and include smileys/emoticons, although there’s little else in the way of communication tools. 

Singles Around Me Kenya is a decent app, and it costs nothing. However, we’d like to see increased membership, particularly on the Kenyan side, and general improvements made to the website. The app works on multiple devices, which means you can sync between them if you wish to. With a bit of a site tidy up and work recruiting new members near you, this could be something special.
