Come on, pucker up! Africa’s about to give you a big slobbery kiss on the lips. Or, so the name of Kisses Of Africa might have you believe. This is a dating site primarily for members in Africa, but how good a job does it do in helping you to find and communicate with a potential date? Well, it’s a mixed bag of delight and demise, in our opinion, with highs and lows in plenitude. 

On first impressions, signing up seems very easy. However, once you’ve included your basic information, you will need to provide a scan or photo to prove you are who you say you are. This can be done on your webcam, or you can send in a digital image of your ID, but it does feel unnecessary and a bit intrusive. Plus, it really slows down registration, particularly because you have to wait up to 24 hours for your account to be checked. The admin team also reserve the right to edit your profile, which is a bit peculiar. 

Once you’ve registered you’re free to explore the site. Searching is disappointing as the criteria are limited, with some of the options seeming a bit redundant. Results aren’t that well organized either, which makes browsing profiles a bit more complicated. You can save searches but, given that there aren’t many choices, it barely seems worth your while.

Once you’ve found someone you like the look of, you can check their profile. This is often underdeveloped and doesn’t offer a lot of information for you to base any judgement on. Meanwhile, photos are of variable quality. We found a lot of pictures to be lower than average quality, although some members had made an effort. 

And so on to some of the more positive elements: there are members from around the world, although mainly from Africa. You can easily see where each member is from (looking at a small flag of their country near their profile picture). The site will translate their profile page if you need it to, which is handy.

You can also talk using text or video, adding some choice to communication methods. If you are not interested in paying monthly fees, then Kisses of Africa might suit you as you buy and spend credits, so can spend as little or as much as you like depending on how often you speak to people. Prices vary, so please check the website for details.

If you need help, then you can contact the admin team, although we did think that the online help was lacking. In fact, generally, we felt that the site needed a revamp, as it felt a bit outdated in areas and didn’t offer a great deal of excitement to users. There’s also nothing in the way of community features such as blogs or forums. 

KissesOfAfrica.com isn’t perfect but it’s not a flop either. There are a decent number of members and if you don’t want a monthly subscription fee, then this site is a potential candidate for you. There are a couple of nice touches, including video options, but it otherwise feels like it needs a makeover.
