As with a couple of other websites we’ve reviewed in this category, African Love is a site provided by WorldSingles. This means that you have access to a fuller roster of members from around the world, although this site is primarily focused on members from Africa, living in Africa or of African descent. However, you’ll also find people who are none of the above, but are interested in pursuing a relationship with an African person.

As experienced on the other sites provided by World Singles, we encountered a number of problems signing up and logging in, which is beyond frustrating at times. Similarly, though, you’ll also find that you can create a very unique profile page with plenty of information to help attract a potential date. This also serves to give you as much information as you’re likely to want before talking to a member, offering a sound basis for things to grow and mature relationship-wise.

Probably the most attractive element to African Love is its profile creation. You can talk about your political beliefs, how you spend your free time and what you are looking for in a relationship. You choose many of these as options, which are then used to automatically match you to similar members, or you can choose to add a few extra details of your own. The more you fill in, the more accurate your matches will be. Receiving accurate matches is important if you want to avoid wasting time speaking to people you’ll never get along with, so we recommend filling out the profile as completely as you can.

Members can upload several photos, which is good to see, although the quality of photos uploaded can be quite variable. Still, the option is there, and most people have uploaded at least one picture of themselves. Another useful feature is the video chat, which connects you to another member using your webcams. You can see and hear each other, talking as you might on the phone but all the while being able to see each other. This is an intimate and exciting way of getting to know someone, and you won’t find it on every dating site.

You can also use the site’s chat rooms to talk to a wider range of people in a laid back space, befriending anyone who strikes your fancy. Beyond these things, there isn’t a great deal to do on the website. More community features would be beneficial in helping people to connect, particularly for members who are a little shy.

We’ve mentioned our issues with registration. Hopefully you won’t have the same problems that we’ve had, although it’s now happened several times so something needs to improve. Searches are also overly basic at times, so you are sometimes better off just browsing members or trying to meet them in the chat rooms. Meanwhile, prices are a little high compared to similar competitors. The long and short of African Love is this: if it works, it’s pretty good. However, they could certainly improve things more generally, as well as some of the bugs in the system.
